Configurable Product States for Consistent Grading

4 min read ยท Return Solution Software

Inconsistent grading is expensive. One operator routes a damaged TV to repair while another marks it scrap โ€” and suddenly your customer data tells two different stories.

Build states around categories

Electronics categories do not share the same disposition paths. A grading taxonomy for televisions should not be identical to small appliances or mobile devices. Configure product states per category so operators see only relevant options.

Use nested sub-states

Top-level states like Repair or Damaged are useful for reporting rollups. Nested sub-states โ€” such as Keep for Repair Services โ€” give supervisors routing precision without cluttering the operator UI.

Color-code for speed

Visual cues at the processing line reduce hesitation. When states carry consistent colors across screens and exports, teams internalize the taxonomy faster.

Review states quarterly

Returns programs evolve. Schedule regular reviews with supervisors to retire unused states and add new ones before they show up as free-text comments.

Configurable grading turns tribal knowledge into operational standards your whole floor can follow.
